Winter 2022 Sermon Series
The priority of prayer is written on almost every page of the Bible and in every chapter of church history. It is not an optional activity for Christians. But, if we’re honest, most of us have to admit that we’re not very good at it.
Try as we may, prayer doesn’t seem to come naturally for many of us, does it?
To become better at prayer, we need to learn how to pray in the same way that the first followers of Jesus did. According to Luke 11:1, the disciples came to Jesus with a request, “Teach us to pray…” And Jesus said, “This is how you should pray…” (Luke 11:2a NLT) He proceeded to give them what has become known as the Lord’s Prayer (found in Luke 11 and Matthew 6). Join us to learn how to pray as we study the Lord's Prayer and apply the Lord's example in our lives...
Week 1: Introduction
Week 2: How to Pause in Prayer
Pastor Craig's notes from this sermon
Week 3: How to Rejoice in Prayer
Week 4: How to Ask in Prayer
Week 5: How to Deal with Unanswered Prayer
Week 6: How to Hear God
The Lord’s Prayer teaches us how to talk to God, but on the surface it says nothing about how to hear from the Lord. But remember, Jesus taught us to say, “Give us this day our daily bread.” That statement isn't just referring to our physical and emotional needs. It also includes spiritual nourishment as well.
Week 7: How to Get Right with God
"Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." In his model prayer, why would Jesus marry the process of getting right with God with the process of getting right with everyone we have ever known? Those two truly do go hand in hand. In this message, Pastor Terry explains why.
Week 8: How to Pray with Power
Near the end of his model prayer, Jesus reminds us there is one more matter to address when we are communicating with our Father: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”When we pray for freedom from temptation and deliverance from evil, we are tapping into the power we need to overcome the Devil and his snares.
