Relationships 101: God

Pastor Craig Carter Last week during our Easter services it was good to see a number of young people who have moved away from Bay County and were home for the weekend to celebrate Easter with their families.  I talked to a few of them and most told me they’d be returning to their classes for just a few weeks, with finals on the horizon. Just hearing that word, “finals,” caused a knot to form in the pit of my stomach.  Even though it’s been more than four decades since I graduated college, I still remember the feeling of being …

Crucified with Christ – Series Introduction

Pastor Craig Carter Today is the first Sunday in Lent, a 40-day period that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter.  Lent is a time set apart annually for Christians to return to the Lord through repentance and reflection so we can reorient our lives to God and His will. The term, Lent, comes from an Old English word meaning “springtime” since it always falls during this particular season of the year.  Based on my three decades of ministry experience, I generally expect attendance at our worship services to be pretty good during the …

How to Deal with Unanswered Prayer

Pastor Craig Carter  In our current series we are learning how to pray based on a prayer Jesus taught us called the Lord’s Prayer.  Last week Pastor Terry addressed how we need to ask in prayer. He said that in our prayers of petition and intercession we should give God a chance, be bold and specific in our requests, and ask in faith. Since we have a loving Father who wants to give good gifts to His children, in our asking we receive, in our seeking we find, and in our knocking doors are opened. And we all know the …

A Comeback Story

Pastor Craig Carter Everyone loves a comeback story, don’t they? I was recently watching the Baseball All Star Game Homerun Derby and found myself rooting for Trey Mancini, even though I know little about him and am not a fan of the team he plays for – the Baltimore Orioles. But I do know a year ago he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and is already back in the big leagues and will probably win the Comeback Player of the Year award (and deservedly so).  Beyond just athletic comeback stories, we’re inspired when we …

The Wonder of a Manger

Pastor Craig Carter Several weeks ago my wife, Lee, asked, “Where should I put Jesus?” That may seem like an odd question so let me provide a little context. We were putting out the Christmas decorations (or should I say, she was putting out the Christmas decorations). One of our cherished items is a figurine of the Christ-child. Lee’s mom had one that she placed beneath her tree each year. We searched for a similar one for years, but to no avail. Finally, we found one during our trip to the Middle East two years ago, in a Bethlehem shop …

The Wonder of the Angels

Pastor Craig Carter During this Advent season we’re exploring “The Wonder of Christmas.” A wonder is defined as “a sense of awe, admiration, or amazement.” The greatest wonder of Christmas is that it demonstrates the amazing love of God. Because of Christ’s birth, we no longer have to question God’s love for us. It was demonstrated in a tangible way when God’s Son, Jesus came and lived among us. Most of the elements of the Nativity story are fairly ordinary and don’t evoke a great deal of wonder or amazement at first appearance. Last week when we studied “the wonder …

Pray Great Prayers

Pastor Craig Carter In recent weeks we have been looking at how we can become great in God’s eyes. This should be the desire of every believer because being a great Christian, rather than settling for just being a good Christian, enables us to bring great glory to God and accomplish great things for His kingdom. We have observed that our journey toward greatness begins with thinking great thoughts, dreaming great dreams, and surrounding ourselves with great people. We’ve also learned that God wants us to enjoy great moments with Him and those around us. Starting today we’re going to …
