This ministry team is made up of nine members that represent both campuses of our church. Our purpose is to implement three of the recommendations from the 2020 Vision Team: to communicate our current financial picture to the congregation, promote and emphasize biblical stewardship, and implement a debt retirement plan. Equally important is what we will not do as we fulfill our purpose. We will make sure we “stay in our lane.” Our denomination has a well-defined process for financial matters. The Church Council, Finance Committee, and Staff-Parish Relations Committee all play a critical role in our church finances, and we will work closely with these established entities to accomplish our mission without duplicating their efforts.
During one of our early team meetings, we discussed some ideas from Change the World: Recovering the Message and Mission of Jesus, a book by Pastor Mike Slaughter. It was a very exciting meeting because every believer wants to help, give, and ultimately be more missional-minded in living out their faith in Christ. Often, much of the challenge of actually living this way is putting a plan into action. We want to give our time, but for some reason, something else comes up. We want to give with a joyful heart, but there are so many things competing for our resources. Our team’s goal is to lead our entire congregation on a journey toward becoming more generous with both their time and money. The plan is to simply implement the three recommendations listed above from the Vision Team.
Just because it is a simple plan doesn’t mean it is going to be easy. Everyone may not fully understand or be on-board with the direction we are headed (to be more missional and outward-focused as a church), but the data we will show you is compelling. We ask for everyone’s prayerful support, and we welcome your feedback. Please help our team lead the Lynn Haven congregation where the Lord wants us to go! Ultimately, we want to see every member exhibit extravagant generosity through “practices of sharing and giving that exceed all expectations and extend to unexpected measures.”
We are excited to be able to present the first part of our financial picture next month! Please pray for the Extravagant Generosity Team and the other 2020 Vision Teams as we seek to become a fruitful congregation for Christ.
